Collection: Coarse Gray Sea Salt

Also known as sel gris, French grey sea salt and Celtic sea salt.

This is the salt raked from the clay floor of the Guérande ponds, which is where the colour and the minerals come from. Gathered by hand with wooden implements, never metal, and never washed or processed.

Use it where salt has time to dissolve. Pasta and potato water, brines, roasting, and curing fish. It is also the salt for a salt crust. A pound seasons a great deal of food and it keeps indefinitely.

95% sodium chloride against 99.9% in ordinary table salt. The remaining 5% is trace minerals, including natural iodine, so there is no need for the chemical iodine added to ordinary iodized salt.
